Ayvaunn Penn has been a part of the Your Black World (YBW) Coalition family for six years – over the course of time using her communication skills to serve as a staff writer and senior editor. Her original work with Dr. Boyce Watkins began as an interviewer and editor for the Dr. Boyce Watkins Spotlights featured in AOL Black Voice’s business and finance section. Today,

Penn is a standing YBW contributor, award-winning playwright, director, and master of the English language ready to help you make your business shine through effective written and verbal communication. Penn has also served as an editor for the scholarly journal Acumen and has writings published in publications such as the prestigious Texas-based parenting magazine DFW Child. Her strong command of verbal communication is evident through her experience as a collegiate keynote speaker and three first-place wins in national public speaking competitions – twice with the National Management Association speaking on entrepreneurship and once with Health Occupation Students of America speaking on health and medicine. She is also the first place winner in the oral presentation category for the 2015 Louisiana Tech University Research Symposium.

Penn’s education consists of: a BA in English and Philosophy from Austin College where she earned academic merit scholarships for her work in English and Journalism; a Master of Arts in Acting and Playwriting from Louisiana Tech University where she earned the Arthur W. Stone Playwriting Award and Lula Mae Sciro Award for Theatre Excellence; and a Master of Fine Arts in Playwriting from New York’s Columbia University where her writing skills earned her the Dean’s Fellowship for the playwriting class of 2018.
